Treatment for Addiction: Hypnotherapy and CBT Strategies for Effective Recovery

We tend to use the term ‘addiction’ loosely, and sometimes with more latitude than is correct.

Addiction is a psychological and physical inability to withdraw from the use of drugs or alcohol, participation in gambling, damaging sexual practices, or other activities that provide gratification, despite being aware of the consequences for aspects of our life, such as health, relationships, or financial security.

By incorporating Hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, along with the introduction of Mindfulness as a powerful self-management tool, significant progress can be achieved in the treatment of addiction, allowing individuals to regain control over even the most deeply ingrained addictive compulsions

How an addiction may be affecting you.

We think of addiction most readily in terms of alcohol consumption, gambling, and drugs. However, many other behaviors and substances can become addictive, and several commonly observed signs that you may have an addiction require assistance.

  • Exhibiting behaviour that is out of control is frequently a sign that whatever you are wrestling with has become an addiction. This behaviour takes many forms, but a common trait is that one seems powerless to resist the demands of addiction.
  • Family or loved ones suffering, as a result, is another common sign that you have an addiction. The suffering can take many forms but may include physical danger (or the fear of this), continuous exposure to unreasonable or abusive behaviour, escalating concern over your well-being, and escalating worries about money.
  • Physical health deterioration is another tangible warning that addiction requires further attention. Deteriorations vary depending on the addiction but may include malnutrition, persistent weight loss or gain, sleeplessness/fatigue, organ malfunction, vision impairment, or difficulty with speech.

Mr. Finland

My approach to helping manage addictions.

Addictions and people experiencing addiction vary widely, and I adopted a range of approaches depending on the specifics of each case. However, all of these methods utilize the same core therapies and tools.

Hypnotherapy

No one can be ‘made’ to overcome addiction using therapy. You must want to do so. However, hypnotherapy allows us to formulate positive suggestions that can help reinforce your decision to change.

CBT

Using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, as a treatment for addiction, I can provide you with a step-by-step ‘programme’ of change and help to build the belief that you are back in control and no longer acting ‘unconsciously’ under the power of addiction.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness serves as a valuable and effective ‘mind maintenance’ tool within the treatment for addiction, enabling you to develop the awareness and self-control necessary to recognize and manage behaviours and responses that could otherwise lead to succumbing to addiction.
