How Health Anxiety may affect you.

Anxieties regarding our general health are extremely common, and trouble both those who are actually vulnerable in some way, and those who, to all intents and purposes, are fit and well.

While some fear of being diagnosed with a dread disease is natural and commonplace, I regularly encounter clients experiencing anxiety over many other health issues, often, thankfully, without foundation in any kind of clinical diagnosis. 

  • Constant and intense self-monitoring for symptoms

    is a sign that health anxiety may be beginning to take hold. This can take many forms but will commonly result in closely looking for marks on the skin, any internal pain or discomfort, or perhaps a cough or shortness of breath.

  • Domestic confinement stress

    the 2020 Covid lockdown changed living patterns for many people. Even now that the pandemic itself is past, many people have been left with a measure of fear about venturing into the outside world, with this possibly inducing anxiety or panic.

  • A fear that health care might not be easily obtained

    and difficulties in some locations in making appointments with overstretched GP surgeries can increase health -related concerns, resulting in a hard-to-manage spiral of anxiety.
