Help with Addictive Behaviours using Hypnotherapy, CBT and Mindfulness.
We tend to use the term ‘addiction’ loosely, and sometimes with more latitude than is correct.
Addiction can involve a psychological or physical inability to withdraw from the use of drugs or alcohol, participation in gambling, damaging sexual practices or other activities that provide gratification, despite being aware of the consequences for aspects of our lives such as health, relationships or financial security.
I use hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), together with mindfulness as a self-management tool, to support clients who want to change addictive patterns of thought and behaviour.
Whatever your difficulty, I offer a confidential and non-judgemental space in which you can be heard.
Addiction can be a serious medical and psychological condition. Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for medical care or specialist addiction treatment. Where appropriate, and with a client’s agreement, I will work alongside their nominated medical or addiction professional. Anyone who may be at risk from withdrawal should seek medical advice before reducing or stopping alcohol or drug use.
How Addictive Behaviour may be affecting you.
We think of addiction most readily in terms of alcohol, gambling and drugs. However, many other behaviours and activities can become addictive. There are several commonly observed signs that an addictive behaviour may require attention.
- Exhibiting behaviour that is out of control is frequently a sign that whatever you are wrestling with has become a serious difficulty. This behaviour can take many forms, but a common feature is feeling powerless to resist it.
- The effect on family or loved ones is another important sign. This may include exposure to unreasonable or abusive behaviour, growing concern about your wellbeing, worries about money or fear for somebody’s safety.
- A deterioration in physical health is a further warning that professional attention may be needed. Any concerning physical symptoms, particularly those connected with alcohol or drug use, should be discussed with a suitably qualified medical professional.

My approach to supporting change in Addictive Behaviour.
People experience addictive behaviours in different ways, so I tailor my approach to the circumstances and needs of each individual client. My work draws on the following established therapies and tools.
Hypnotherapy and Addictive Behaviour
No one can be ‘made’ to overcome an addictive behaviour through therapy. You must want to make the change. Hypnotherapy allows us to formulate positive suggestions that can help reinforce your decision.
CBT and Addictive Behaviour
Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I can help you develop a step-by-step plan for change and strengthen your belief that you can regain control of your behaviour.
Mindfulness and Addictive Behaviour
Mindfulness can serve as a valuable ‘mind maintenance’ tool, helping you develop greater awareness and recognise and manage behaviours and responses that might otherwise undermine your decision to change.
