Pain Management / Hypnotherapy
The power of the mind to control pain is well documented and there are an infinite number of studies and reports available for those wishing to delve deeper into this. I am sure that most of us will have seen fire-walking for example, or even dental surgery without chemical anaesthetic. The only pain relief is hypnotic suggestion and the participants experience no discomfort whatsoever. If you wish to read more about studies carried out regarding the effectiveness of hypnothereapy and hypnosis as a method of controlling pain, please click HERE.
The Hypnowellness approach to pain relief and control is split into two areas.
In the first approach, using Clinical Hypnotherapy, the client will receive suggestions that can help diminish the pain and increase the body's resistance to it. The effect can be very profound and many people experience enormous relief even after one single session of this. The client learns to install their own 'control panel' which will enable them to visualise a dial or 'volume control' which they can employ at any time, wherever they are, to reduce their level of discomfort should they have an episode. This is a wonderful method of regaining control over the body. Indications for this approach are primarily for pain that re-occurs in a consistent area of the body.
The second approach is to teach an intriguing system where the client learns the technique of 'glove anaesthesia', sometimes referred to as the 'healing hand'. They will learn through hypnosis how to instil an anaesthetic 'power' in their hand which they can then apply to the affected area to reduce and alleviate pain.
This method is ideally suited to a sufferer of 'mobile' pain centres. That is, where pain or discomfort is not always sited in the same place in the body. Glove anaesthesia has been used for a great many complaints, including headaches, toothache, and neuralgic conditions.
Alongside this hypnotherapeutic approach, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) may also be recommended to help establish an important new postive attitude to your condition.
